There are few things more enjoyable than having the ability to work from home. Our homes are a place where we feel most comfortable—and arguably—the most like ourselves. This can make working at home either a great or terribly unproductive. As great as it could be, our homes are full distractions and are often not designed for working productively.
Simple, modern coworking spaces like SpaceLab Detroit, provide all the things amenities (and necessities) of a traditional office with the flexibility of working from home.
Read my recent blog post about another great coworking space in the Detroit Metro area, Byte & Mortar Offices in Troy, MI.
SpaceLab Detroit: Impressions
SpaceLab Detroit is unique from other coworking spaces that we visited. While it has many of the same amenities, it’s space is designed to specifically attract coworkers from creative industries instead of merely a general audience. As a result the work spaces are colorful and perhaps more contemporary.

Lining perpendicular to the windows are rows of dedicated desks where we saw many people hard at work. My eyes were drawn to the nearby conference room, constructed with glass walls. There is also a second conference room available to members which is more secluded and also allows for city views. The view of Detroit from SpaceLab is unparalleled. You feel immersed in the urban landscape.
Attached the coworking area was a small room, fully furnished with books and catalogs. SpaceLab offers its members a full library of architectural and design resources.
Plans & Pricing
SpaceLab offers several different plans to accommodate a wide variety of needs and work styles:

Location
SpaceLab Detroit is located in the heart of downtown Detroit at 607 Shelby St, Suite 700, Detroit, MI 48226. The ground floor entrance to the building—marked with a big “607”— is next to the entrance to Brome Modern Eatery.
Parking
It took us around 10-15 minutes to find parking when we visited SpaceLab, which is to be expected in an urban area. Make sure to take this into consideration when planning your own visit or meeting.
Below are a few parking options for visiting SpaceLab:
Street parking is available all around SpaceLab for $1 per hour
Paid lots and garages are available around downtown for $8-$15/hour at the following locations:
Shelby & Larned (Lot)
Fort & Washington (Lot)
Washington & Congress (Garage)
440 E Congress (Garage)
