How to Simplify Your LinkedIn URLJun 15, 2021
Did you know that the URL you are assigned when you create a LinkedIn profile can be modified? It's a simple process, and by modifying and SIMPLIFYING your LinkedIn URL, it makes it easier for you and your future connections to quickly and easily locate your LinkedIn profile by simply typing your URL in any web browser.
How to simplify your LinkedIn URL:
- Go to the "ME" icon and click on "VIEW PROFILE" in the desktop version of LinkedIn (not in the mobile app).
- Click on "Edit Public Profile & URL" in the upper right hand corner.
- Click on the pencil icon. You'll see here that LinkedIn is now going to only let you modify after that last slash. Here's where you can go in and remove the dashes that might appear between your first and last name, and any of that gobbledy-gook numbers and letters that really don't make a whole lot of sense at the end.
- Make your LinkedIn URL as simple as possible. If you can, use your first and last name all as one word with no dashes or spaces. If you are a "Bob Smith" or something very common you might need to use a middle initial, or some word at the end, "bobsmithMI" for "Michigan" or "bobsmithDesign" (or a word defining your industry or business)
- Click to "Save."
That's it! You now have a simplified LinkedIn URL. Add it to your website contact info, your resume, your email signature (make it a hyperlink to your profile), and to any marketing pieces for your business.
If you're a more visual person, here's a video showing and walking you through these steps. The video was created in 2017 and some items on LinkedIn navigation have changed since then, but the instructions for changing your URL are the same.
